Danger of Snook's mobile fantasy
Article Abstract:
City analysts seem to believe claims by Orange Managing Director Hans Snook that around 90% of all voice telephony will be mobile by 2008, with penetration rates reaching 150% to 200%. The company's share price has risen dramatically, particularly as a result of a tariff-cutting initiative which will make it competitive with market leader Vodafone. However, it actually seems fairly unlikely that Orange will meet its long-term business aims. It is possible that mobile phone networks will have to reduce their tariffs to commodity levels if current levels of market growth are to be maintained.
