The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle, England, contains a very wide range of items purchased by John and Josphine Bowes between 1861 and 1875. These include decorative art, paintings and furniture. Janice Blackburn, who curates Sotheby's annual selling exhibition, is currently staging an exhibition at the Bowes Museum of 80 contemporary artworks she believes would have appealed to John and Josephine Bowes. Article Abstract:
Tobias Poensgen and Nicholas Sokolow invite investment of at least 5 million pounds sterling per portfolio, in paintings. They only buy in the top 5% of the market, spending over 50,000 pounds sterling on each picture. They use books and computers on price-change momentum and a seasonally revised time-series index. They amalgamate quantitative analysis - chartism - with quality analysis - fundamentalism. Their Art Market Index is based on world auction results from 1971 using data from Art Sales Index, Weybridge.
