Disability needn't handicap your retirement
Article Abstract:
The UK government offers the disability living allowance and incapacity benefit to those who are disabled in some way and need assistance with everyday tasks. These benefits are not means tested, but in the case of incapacity benefit payments are taxed at the individual's highest rate. Disabled people planning for retirement should focus on long-term capital growth and on keeping the overall risk of their investment portfolio to a minimum. Those concerned about becoming too exposed to equities may wish to consider investing in corporate-bond personal equity plans, which are generally less volatile.

Plan to retire with an easy conscience
Article Abstract:
A low-risk with-profits bond can be a sensible investment for somebody who has a relatively large amount of money to invest but has only a short time left before retirement. This investment will not be vulnerable to the day-to-day volatility of the stock market, but the capital will probably produce a better return than if it were left in a deposit account. For those unlikely to gain a maximum occupational pension, it is worth considering starting a free-standing additional voluntary contribution plan.
