Article Abstract:
Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole must gain extensive support in California if he is to have a chance of winning the forthcoming presidential election. In particular, he must be successful in Orange County, where the residents subscribe strongly to patriotism and traditional values. The latest polls indicate that president Bill Clinton is ahead of Bob Dole, and 20 leading state Republicans have even indicated that they will support Clinton, as the object to Dole's opposition to abortion rights and gun control.

Captain Bob scents the end of his odyssey
Article Abstract:
Bob Dole has seen a considerable number of setbacks in his political career, but now looks well placed to gain the Republican party's presidential nomination. He has achieved large margins over his rivals in the primaries which have been held so far, and is now confident enough to promise to unite the party. It is likely that supporters of minor candidates will now switch their loyalty to Dole.
