Dole faces his last hurrah
Article Abstract:
Bob Dole will formally accept the Republican party's nomination for the Presidency amid great celebrations at the party's forthcoming convention in San Diego. This event will only temporarily detract attention from the many challenges he faces as he prepares for the presidential elections in Nov 1996. He is performing badly in the polls, and has received very negative media attention recently. Furthermore, he has not been able to persuade Colin Powell to stand as his running-mate, the only thing which would really have served to boost the party's fortunes.

The old man of war is still a sure shot
Article Abstract:
Bob Dole, majority leader of the US Senate, has come to embody the views of ordinary Americans on the best approach to the war in Bosnia. This issue has in fact become a metaphor for his battle for the presidency. He is currently expressing extremely right wing views, but it is likely that if he gains his party's nomination he will swing towards the centre again. He is now 72, and has a number of health problems, but seems likely to become a strong candidate.

Luck puts repackaged Dole ahead of the pack
Article Abstract:
There are no clear rivals to Senate majority leader Bob Dole as he seeks to gain the Republican party's presidential nomination. It is now accepted that he stands a very good chance of being nominated within a few weeks of the Iowa caucuses on Feb 12, 1996. He currently holds at least 40% in the polls, while his closest rivals have hardly exceeded 10%.
