The cut-price clingy cossie conflict
Article Abstract:
Designer Liza Bruce is taking legal action against Marks and Spencer following the launch by the chain store of a swimming costume which is almost identical to on which she designed and which sells in exclusive stores for 120 pounds sterling. It is reasonably common for chain stores to copy designer clothing, and the designers usually decide that it is not worth taking legal action. However, in this case Bruce feel that it is important to do so, as she fears that her designs have been devalued.

Revenge of the old masters
Article Abstract:
Young designers presented some interesting concepts at the fashion shows in Paris, France. Sharon Wauchob, for example, showed some attractive clothes and gentle shapes, while new ideas also came from Ann Demeulemeester and Dries Van Noten. However, young designers did not dominate as much as journalists and buyers wanted them to. Karl Lagerfeld presented a new image for Chanel, while Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons showed that she continues to challenge preconceived ideas about clothes.

Designers are no longer slaves to fashion, this season they are doing their own thing
Article Abstract:
The recent spring/summer 1997 fashion shows in Paris, France, have indicated that leading fashion designers are currently all taking a different approach, rather than gaining inspiration from each other. Jean Paul Gaultier, for example, has revitalised late 1970s punk styles, while Comme des Garcons has focused on padding and wadding and Vivienne Westwood has used bondage themes and Victorian fabrics.
