Elmer Gantry vs the Brixton boy: the gloves are off
Article Abstract:
It is hard to assess how much real friction exists between Conservative party leader John Major and Labour party leader Tony Blair. Both parties are attempting to play down the idea that there may be serious difficulties in the relations between the two men, but the issue is actually more complicated that this. Blair respects Major's ability to win elections, but regards him as a weak leader. Major accepts Blair as a strong political force, but dislikes his attempts to take the moral high ground.

Labour becomes a people's party at long last
Article Abstract:
The decision by the UK Labour party's National Executive to agree to extensive changes to the party's functions and structure is extremely significant. Indeed, making such changes may ensure that the party is able to win two full consecutive terms in office, a feat which it has never achieved before. The new structure will make it much easier for the party to operate if it wins the forthcoming general election, and is not undemocratic, as some people have claimed.
