Townshend's new epic saw the future 30 years ago
Article Abstract:
The Who's Pete Townshed intended 'Lifehouse' to be a successor to the extremely popular rock opera 'Tommy.' An early version of the work was performed at the Young Vic Theatre in London, England, in 1971, but Townshend then abandoned the project. He has now completed it, and it will be premiered on Radio 3 in Dec 1999. The work places strong emphasis on digital networks, and in this way seems to foreshadow the internet and the world wide web.
