Europe has meagre offerings for Arafat
Article Abstract:
Yasser Arafat, currently attending an emergency meeting of European foreign ministers in advanced of the planned Middle East summit in Washington, hopes to convince European countries to take a firm stand against Israeli prime minister Netanyahu. This would contrast strongly with the line taken by the US, which has not criticised Israeli breaches of the Oslo accords. However, it is unlikely that Arafat will be able to persuade European foreign ministers to take firm action.

Bruised Arafat safe after desert air crash
Article Abstract:
Worlwide grief of Palestinians after the disappearance of Yasser Arafat during an aircraft journey turned to cheer when his survival was reported. The plane carrying the leader of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) had to crashland in the Libyan desert and three crew members were killed. Israel, though no lover of Arafat, see his present weakened position as being to their advantage so are unofficially pleased that a stronger replacement will now not be necessary.
