The leaders of Western Europe fiddle while the continent burns
Article Abstract:
European Union leaders devote a great deal of time to debating relatively insignificant issues, but have so far been unable to put a stop to bitter conflict in the Balkans. The European Union is seeking the glory of a new 'defence identity,' but is not willing to act in a collaborative way to prevent loss of life. It is now time for European Union leaders to focus on protecting a civilized way of life and ensuring that there is peace throughout Europe.

Europe, the continent of good intent and late-night compromises?
Article Abstract:
The Anglo-German document 'The Way Forward for Europe's Social Democrats' represents an attempt by UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder to present themselves as an alliance for European Union reform. This document contains some brave statements, but doubts must still be raised about whether Blair and Schroder will really be willing to challenge entrenched interests in the European Union. For Blair, this document enshrines what he is already doing quite successfully, while for Schroder it presents what he must still do.
