Exiles press West towards Tehran spring
Article Abstract:
The People's Mujahedin of Iran, which has as its political wing the National Resistance Council, is attempting to promote a moderate Islam in which women's rights are respected, according to Maryam Rajavi. Some observers see her organisation as the only serious resistance to Iran's fundamentalist regime, while others regard it in a more negative light, stating that it can be brutal and repressive. She points out that western governments are still supporting the Iranian regime, and that this regime would soon be overthrown by the ordinary people if this were not the case.

Liberte versus fraternite: a dispatch from the French dog-poo wars
Article Abstract:
There are very mixed views about how city authorities in Paris, France, should deal with the extremely serious dog-dirt problem. Politicians have generally been unwilling to enforce punishments for dog-owners who allow their dog to foul the pavement, as they realize that this could lose them votes. They have responded instead by paying a private company to clean the pavements regularly. However, Jean Tiberi, the city's new Mayor, is showing signs of a more determined approach, appointing 15 special counsellors to educate dog-owners.

Once they pedalled to glory. Now, are they just peddling drugs?
Article Abstract:
Three senior officials from the Festina cycling team, which is participating in the 1998 Tour de France race, have been arrested on suspicion of handling anabolic steroids, a performance-enhancing drug. The team members have consistently tested clean of drugs since the beginning of the race, and the Tour de France organizers do not intend to ban the team from the race. It has been known for some years that leading cyclists use drugs, but until now drug problems have generally been handled within the sport itself.
