Fabulous Butcher Boy
Article Abstract:
Reinventing the world of Ireland in the early 1960s for the film version of Patrick McCabe's novel 'The Butcher Boy' was very interesting, according to filmmaker Neil Jordan. He was keen to reinvent the world of his childhood, a time during which he feels that he was often not in touch with reality at all. He believes that 'The Butcher Boy' is a story of cultural deprivation and of emotional repression. This bears close resemblances to the Ireland with which he is familiar.

A different way of seeing
Article Abstract:
Reaching the point of obsession is vital in making a really successful film, according to director Nicolas Roeg. He first came to public attention with extremely innovative techniques in the 1970s, but after this time his career faded into obscurity. He is now set to enjoy a revival with 'Two Deaths,' which he regards as being linked with 'Bad Timing,' a film made in his innovative phase. He is already considering the theme of another new film.

King of the losers
Article Abstract:
Moving from film directing to producing was a natural progression, according to Roger Corman, who gave up directing in 1970. He now produces 30 films a year, and enjoys the freedom which producing gives him. Some observers believe that he worked much better as a director than a producer, but it could be that he felt that his directing career was not really making any progress.
