There has been an outpouring of grief across the world in response to the terrorist attacks in the US. Around 800 million people observed three minutes of silence to remember the dead, now believed to number more than 5,000.

Inside the towers, they scrambled for their lives
Article Abstract:
Survivors of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre in New York, NY, have given some indication of the extent of the horror and devastation inside and around the buildings. It is estimated that between 10,000 and 20,000 people were in the buildings when they were hit by the first plane.

Refugee camps are being established on an unofficial basis in Albania, Macedonia and Montenegro as large numbers of ethnic Albanians flee Kosovo, Yugoslavia. Aid agencies have been unable to deal with the influx of refugees, and it is feared that malnourishment and starvation could become serious problems. The World Food Programme has been stockpiling food for some time in the border regions of countries neighbouring Kosovo, but these supplies are likely to prove inadequate.
