Fear of Aids is not the only thing that frightens the modern soldier
Article Abstract:
There are many conflicting forces in modern society that exert influence over soldiers. Many soldiers will never be involved in actual conflict, but they are still expected to be extremely tough and to be willing to put their life at risk to protect a colleague. There is strong pressure not to appear weak, and this can in turn bring sexual anxiety. It is important to consider whether the Army should reflect the changes that have taken place in society or should seek to isolate itself from them. It tends to protect its soldiers from the real world, and this could make a career in the Army seem less attractive.

Only whisky-swilling blokes will drink to Ken
Article Abstract:
The UK government's 1996 Budget received extensive media attention, even though, like many other previous budgets, it was not really particularly interesting. All budgets are strongly influenced by party politics, rather than by economics, and are oriented towards the measures which politicians believe will be most popular with voters. The 1996 Budget followed the trend of recent budgets in shifting income away from women and towards men, and seems to be part of a general government approach which takes money away from women and children.
