Engineer and businessman Ferdinand Porsche became interested in automotive technology at an early age, as his father was one of Europe's leading automotive experts. He joined his father's design consultancy, and worked with him on a series of prototypes which led to the Volks Wagen. He began to establish a reputation in his own right after the second world war, especially with the 356. He gained an honorary doctorate in engineering from the Technical University of Vienna, Austria, in 1965.

Sir James Tait
Article Abstract:
Engineer and university administrator James Tait studied engineering at evening classes as a teenager before gaining a scholarship to the Royal Technical College in Glasgow, Scotland. He obtained an engineering diploma, and was appointed a lecturer at the college. He became Head of the Electrical Engineering Dept at Portsmouth Municipal College in 1946, and then moved to the Northampton Polytechnic. For 12 years until 1976 he was a member of the National Electronic Council.

Graham Webster
Article Abstract:
Engineer and archaeologist Graham Webster was born in Stamford, England, in 1913. He began his working life as an articled pupil to the City Engineer of Peterborough, and then became a chartered civil engineer.
