Philip Ravenhill
Article Abstract:
Anthropologist and museum curator Philip Ravenhill was born the UK, but was partly educated in the US. He began working in Africa in 1972 while a postgraduate at the New School of Social Research, New York, NY, and created close links with the University of Abidjan. He worked mainly among the Wan, Lobi, Baule and Guro, and made films about Ivorian art. He also worked extensively with museum collections in Africa. He was instrumental in setting up the West African Museums Project.

Professor Abner Cohen
Article Abstract:
Social anthropologist Abner Cohen was born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1921. He migrated to Israel in 1949 and developed an interest in social anthropology while working as a school inspector. He spent 24 years in the Department of Anthropology at Soas.

Professor Julian Pitt-Rivers
Article Abstract:
Anthropologist Julian Pitt-Rivers was born in London, England, in 1919. He studied at Worcester College, Oxford, England, and served in the Royal Dragoons during the second world war. He gained a Doctorate in Social Anthropology in 1953.
