Fireworks in progress
Article Abstract:
Vagueness plays a valuable role in creating interest in the theatre, according to composer and director Heiner Goebbels. He likes to collaborate directly with his musicians, and feels that he composes like a theatre director who develops the abilities and characteristics of the actors. He emphasizes that he did not wish to work from a preconceived musical starting point when composing his show 'Max Black.' For this show, he collaborated with actor Andre Wilms.

Quiet at the back of the class
Article Abstract:
Composers must have contact with ordinary people, according to composer Gavin Bryars, who enjoys hearing the views of amateur musicians. He is not particularly ambitious, and is satisfied with the successes he has had so far. He adopts a pragmatic view, and is happy to compose for friends when he does not have any commissions. He has recently accepted a commission from the London Sinfonietta, and has also revised the 1989 score of 'Cadman Requiem.'
