Bill Ward
Article Abstract:
Television producer and executive Bill Ward was working as a technical assistant when the world's first regular public television service was inaugurated at Alexandra Palace in London, England, in Nov 1936. During the second world war, he worked on the new radar devices and became a lecturer on radar equipment at the Military College of Science. He returned to the BBC after the war, but in 1955 joined ATV as head of light entertainment. He produced ITV's opening night show in Sep 1955. He subsequently held a number of positions, eventually becoming deputy managing director.
