Television executive Ferdinand Wachenheimer, known as Fred Friendly, began his working life at a radio station in Providence, RI, where he produced five-minute dramatized biographies called 'Footprints in the Sands of Time.' He returned to radio production after the second world war, but gradually became involved in television broadcasting too. He was particularly successful through his working partnership with CBS war correspondent Ed Murrow.

Sydney Newman
Article Abstract:
Television producer Sydney Newman joined the National Film Board of Canada at the age of 20, and was made responsible for training films for the armed services. He was assigned to NBC in New York in 1949, and was subsequently appointed to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp as director of features and outside broadcasts and supervisor of drama. He joined the BBC in 1962, and received many professional awards, both in the UK and Canada.

Sir Charles Fletcher-Cooke
Article Abstract:
Barrister and politician Charles Fletcher-Cooke was born in London, England, in 1914. He gained Firsts in both history and law at Cambridge University, England, and then gained a studentship to Lincoln's Inn. He was called to the Bar in 1938.
