Free plug into Network has online rivals on tenterhooks

Article Abstract:

The US Justice Department has not yet made any decision about whether Microsoft should be forced to remove the direct connection to Microsoft Network from its new Windows 95 operating system. Companies offering online services are extremely concerned about this feature, viewing Microsoft Network as anti-competitive because they are unable to offer their product as an integral part of the operating system. According to Microsoft, it is important for operating systems to offer a wider range of features.

The price of change is high, but can you afford not to upgrade?

Article Abstract:

Microsoft claims that the final release of its new Windows 95 operating system will run on a PC powered by an Intel 80386 chip and equipped with 4 megabytes of RAM. However, potential purchasers should be aware that Windows 95 will not really represent value for money unless it is run on a PC with at least an Intel 80486 chip and at least 8 megabytes of RAM. This may deter purchasers, as buying an additional 4 megabytes of RAM is expensive.

A window we will all want to open

Article Abstract:

Considerable marketing hype has surrounded the forthcoming launch of Microsoft's new Windows 95 operating system, with a total worldwide promotional budget of around $750 million. The product is not at the leading edge of computer technology, but seems set to be a success because it meets the demand for a global product which is also aimed at the individual. This will make it one of only a few really 'classic' products.
