From bedroom to boardroom
Article Abstract:
A boom developed in computer games in the United Kingdom in the 1980s, and this was partly due to the type of computers available in the UK at that time. UK machines were less sophisticated than machines used in the US, and a culture of programming developed in the UK, with Commodore Amiga machines playing an important role. Companies started to move into an area where youths working alone had operated. There is still space for bedroom games players in this market, but there are risks involved.

How to sell in cyberspace
Article Abstract:
Any company considering trading on the Internet should first look carefully at some of the features of the Internet which may determine whether it could be useful as a business channel to that particular company. It is important to be aware that people who visit a company's Web site will be pre-selected as having an interest in that company's products. Consideration should also be given to whether the company's product is aimed at people who have access to the Internet.

It will take at least a further five years before speech recognition becomes a recognized technology, and some degree of vision will also be possible within a similar timescale. Microsoft's research work is focusing heavily on speech recognition and vision control.
