From cradle to catwalk
Article Abstract:
There is strong competition among modelling agencies for girls in their early teens. This work may seem glamorous, but in fact there is a danger of young girls being exploited and pushed into environments where they will be exposed to undesirable influences. Some girls may look mature, but they probably do not have the emotional maturity required to cope with demanding work. Modelling may bring benefits, but only if the girl concerned receives strong guidance and is aware that it is important to retain other elements in her life.

The fashion victims of football
Article Abstract:
Fashion companies in the UK are very keen to have their clothes endorsed by leading football players. However, suits designed for football teams are not always very successful. Some observers believe that the leading teams, which have a great deal of money, should seek to encourage local talent. Hugo Boss has supplied a number of the UK's top teams, but the England team for the 1998 World Cup will be wearing suits designed by British designer Paul Smith.

A tough act for mortals to follow
Article Abstract:
Tank Girl, a comic-book character created in 1988 by artist Jamie Hewlett and writer Alan Martin, has set fashion trends and established a strong cult following. The magazine in which she appears, 'Deadline,' regularly holds lookalike competitions, and her fans try to dress in the same way as her. She has now been converted into a film character in 'Tank Girl,' which opens in the UK in Jun 1995.
