The recent trial of actor Craig Charles on rape charges has again raised questions about anonymity for public figures. He has called for general anonymity in rape cases, but cannot really expect that this would ever be possible. Celebrities must accept that their activities, whether good or bad, will receive media attention, and veiling them with secrecy would only have a more negative outcome than telling the truth.

Channel 4's late-night youth show 'The Word' has attracted controversy ever since it started in 1989. It has attracted an average of 3 million viewers every week, and there have now been 101 editions. It has become famous for promoting unfamiliar presenters, most of who have gone on to become cult figures, and for its vulgar stunts. It is now rumoured that the programme will soon be dropped.
