Ethnic Media Group director, Sarwar Ahmed, set up Eastern Eye, a newspaper, when he was 18-years-old in 1989. The newspaper has come to be the dominant Asian paper in the United Kingdom. He has geared the paper to a market of young Asians who aim to stay in the UK, and his model is the Sun newspaper. He aims to entertain his readership. He sold a 60% stake of Eastern Eye to Southnews in 1989 and acquired three other titles, New Nation, Asian Times and Caribbean Times.
