The sad life, grim death and terrible betrayal of Aliyah, 13
Article Abstract:
The official report into the death of 13-year-old Aliyah Ismail in Camden, London, England, in Oct 1998 indicates that social workers, the police and health agencies failed to provide adequate protection for her. She had been moved 68 times during her life, and there was a lack of coordination between the various agencies dealing with her case. The social services department in Harrow, London, England, has acknowledged that its staff should have acted more rapidly in placing her in secure accommodation to protect her. She died after taking an overdose of the heroin substitute methadone.

Keep to the Left - for that feel-bad factor
Article Abstract:
There is still a very limited market for radical periodicals in the UK. Some of these periodicals emphasize that they are not necessarily seeking a very large circulation, but it is hard to explain why left-wing publications cannot compete with more mainstream publications, given that the Labour party was elected with such a large majority. It seems that those who purchase radical periodicals do so mainly because they feel guilty about issues such as the structure of the world economy.
