Gay owners told to put it in writing
Article Abstract:
Gay couples should make clear written financial arrangements at an early stage in their relationship if serious problems are to be avoided should they ever split up. The main issues for gay couples are the right of occupation, the right to inherit and the division of net proceeds if a jointly-owned property is sold. A written agreement should cover issues such as meeting the cost of repairs, and may also include an agreement to settle any dispute by arbitration, rather than incurring the cost of using a solicitor.
