Gene Sarazen
Article Abstract:
Golf player Eugene Saraceni, known as Gene Sarazen, came into contact with golf as a caddie. He was self-taught, and always showed great determination. He first came to public attention in the US Open in 1922. He had three Majors before he was 22, but his greatest success came in 1932, when he won the Open with a then record 283. His last tournament was the 1973 Open, when he had a hole in one. He remained involved with golf, overseeing the inauguration in Atlanta, GA, of the Sarazen World Open.

Joyce Wethered
Article Abstract:
Golfer Joyce Wethered first played golf during family holidays. She only ever had one formal lesson, but learned a great deal from watching leading players such as Harry Vardon and Bobby Jones. She was particularly highly respected for her victory in the 1929 British Women's Championship. She turned professional, and toured the US in 1935, competing against leading players such as Gene Sarazen. She was a pioneer among women golfers, often having to deal with considerable prejudice.
