Geoffrey Trease

Writer Geoffrey Trease gained a scholarship to study Greats at Queen's College, Oxford, England, at the age of 18, but left the university after a year to work at a settlement in the East End of London, England. His first book, 'Bows Against the Barons,' was published in 1934. He was never a Communist, but his radical early works sold very well in the Soviet Union. He wrote in many different styles, but became most well known as a writer of historical novels for children.

Yvonne Kapp
Article Abstract:
Writer and activist Yvonne Kapp studied journalism at King's College, London, England. After her marriage to artist Edmond Kapp, she earned a living by writing articles. She obtained a job at Vogue in Paris, France, in 1927. She published four novels under the name of Yvonne Cloud, with the first, 'Nobody Asked You,' being self-published in 1932. She joined the Communist Party in 1936 after vising the Soviet Union, and subsequently became politically active.

Catherine Storr
Article Abstract:
Writer Catherine Storr was born in London, England, in 1913. She studied English at Newnham College, Cambridge, England. She later qualified as a doctor, but also published over 30 books for children.
