Give the man a cigar
Article Abstract:
The forthcoming film 'Smoke' is based on a short story written for the New York Times by novelist Paul Auster. He was initially uncertain about the story's potential as a film, but eventually spent two years collaborating on the film with director Wayne Wang. He has had one previous book filmed, but did not become involved in the production of it. This time, he participated in all areas, including casting, rehearsals and design work.

Pretentious, moi?
Article Abstract:
Alain de Botton is only 25 years old, but has already published three books since leaving university. He has become a romantic idol to Cambridge and Oxford university students and people in their 20s, even though he was regarded as excessively academic and lacking humour when he was at university himself. Some critics have accused him of being pretentious, because he uses many literary and philosophical allusions.

'Death is so terribly, terribly interesting.'
Article Abstract:
