Sir Ian MacGregor

Businessman Ian MacGregor gained a first class degree in Metallurgical Engineering at Glasgow University, Scotland, followed by a diploma with distinction in Science and Technology. He was recruited to the Ministry of Supply at the beginning of the second world war, and in 1940 was sent to the US to advise on the metals required for British armour. He decided to remain in the US after the war, and eventually became chief executive of American Metal Climax. He was chairman and chief executive of British Steel between 1980 and 1993.

Kenneth Wood
Article Abstract:
Electrical manufacturer Kenneth Wood set up his own business in radio, television and radar development at the age of 21. He sold this in 1939, and worked on radar at the Admiralty until 1946. He set up Kenwood Manufacturing Co Ltd, and in 1950 introduced the Kenwood Chef A700 food mixer at the Ideal Home Exhibition. His company's success was partly attributable to the commitment he had to marketing the Kenwood Chef. He became a millionaire by the age of 42.
