Giving workers a share of the company
Article Abstract:
The UK government is seeking to encourage employee share ownership. It hopes that this approach will create a more enterprising climate and thus reduce the productivity gap. Most companies in the FTSE 350 have introduced all-employee share schemes, but this is only the case among around 25% to 30% of smaller quoted companies. The level of employee share ownership is even lower among unquoted companies. Mixed views have been expressed about whether employee share ownership really helps to boost performance.

The gurus we worship in the workplace
Article Abstract:
The world's leading management theorists enjoy a large following, particularly in the US, where efforts towards self-improvement are extremely popular. Management experts have gradually emerged since the second world war, and continue to be influential in the 1990s, when many businesses are looking for ways to escape the recession. They are likely to remain popular, as few managers are really confident about how to act in a contantly changing business environment.
