Glaxo's heir-apparent gets ready for his biggest test
Article Abstract:
Taking on a challenge can be very stimulating, according to Glaxo Wellcome Chief Executive-elect Sean Lance. He has already worked very hard to ensure that the company will not be too negatively affected by the loss of patent protection for Zantac, its extremely successful anti-ulcer drug, but is aware that Glaxo will have to struggle to maintain its status as the largest pharmaceutical company in the world. He is keen to see the company establish a presence in third world countries, which have traditionally been overlooked by large pharmaceutical companies.
