Godfather and son
Article Abstract:
Melvin Van Peebles first became well known as a film director in the early 1970s, and is now also involved in screenwriting, composing and lecturing. He has always striven to represent the views of black America, and this is particularly apparent in 'Sweet Sweetback's Baadassss Song,' which he financed himself and is regarded as his best work. His son, Mario, is also involved in film directing, and they have recently worked together on 'Panther,' a film adapted from Melvin Van Peebles' own novel.

Gored to death
Article Abstract:
It is important for a film-maker not to become stuck in a particular form, according to Peter Jackson. He has become closely associated with films focusing on horror and the grotesque, but is constantly seeking new challenges and cannot really be placed in a specific category. He believes that the horror film genre is set for a revival, even though it is not particularly fashionable at present. His most recent film, 'The Frighteners,' is due to open shortly in the UK.
