Gods that always fail
Article Abstract:
It is debatable whether intellectuals should directly participate in the public sphere if they represent specific ideas and aspire to make them work in society. Religious converts and new believers can be equally intolerant and violent, causing ethnic cleansing and mass slaughter. True intellectual analysis disallows taking sides for innocent and evil. Intellectuals can only think as disciples if they consider their benefactors. The most difficult thing for intellectuals is representing what they proclaim through their work without becoming an institution.

Want to save the opera? Here's a solution from the gods
Article Abstract:
The suggestion that the Royal Opera, the English National Opera and the Royal Ballet should share a renovated Royal Opera House in London, England, has some significant implications. It is likely that private investors would withdraw funding for the renovation of the Royal Opera House, as sharing facilities would make them feel that they are no longer members of an exclusive Royal Opera club. It may be better for the English National Opera to move to the new Sadler's Wells theatre, while the Royal Ballet occupies the Coliseum, which would be renovated.
