Goodbye heritage, hello culture
Article Abstract:
There has been a boom in British creativity since the mid-1980s, with many examples of success in culture and design. Culture is becoming a strong generator of business, even though it has received little support from the government. Indeed, the government has been careful to remain neutral about anything which goes beyond mere popular culture. This is regrettable, as the government needs culture and cultural revival, especially as it seems to be determined to reject heritage.

A national heritage that holds us back
Article Abstract:
There is a growing trend in the UK for all significant developments to be shaped from outside the country, rather than from within. This in turn leads to increasing emphasis on British heritage, which is a dangerous trend. There are signs that British society is becoming so overloaded with memories and precedents that it is increasingly difficult to move in any direction at all. Focusing on British heritage means that the UK will never take any positive action of its own.

A heritage trail littered with mistakes
Article Abstract:
The Department of National Heritage is an unnecessary body, as it simply undertakes duties which could easily be carried out elsewhere. It has unsuccesfully tried to combine a number of different approaches, seeing itself as nostalgic and patriotic but also light-hearted, the 'Ministry of Fun.' It is now damaging the government's reputation, and should really be abolished.
