Goodbye to all that ...
Article Abstract:
Feminism has been moving in new directions in the UK over recent years. It traditionally had a rather negative image, being associated with women who were rebellious and anti-men, but has now entered a new era. Sexual equality in all areas is now taken for granted, and feminism has become much more mainstream, being associated with women who are successful in their own right and do not expect special treatment. However, some observers feel that the new-style feminism overlooks the needs of some groups of women, particularly the disabled and those from ethnic groups.

'No one else knows about this, but ...' (growing popularity of talk shows)
Article Abstract:
The British have traditionally been very reserved about their feelings, only discussing problems with experts or with their own family. However, radio and television talk shows have recently become extremely popular, and it now seems that many people are prepared to confide their deepest secrets to large audiences. Some observers believe that this change in attitude is partly the result of living in a commodity culture where advertising is very influential.

'It's not much different from Ibiza and the sand is nicer here.' (continued popularity of the British family beach holiday)
Article Abstract:
The family beach holiday remains an institution in the UK, despite the growing availability of cheap holidays abroad and concerns about pollution and child safety. Up to 24.5 million seaside holidays were taken in 1994, along with 110 million day trips. A rigid class system still remains at seaside resorts, with strong behavioural codes being clearly visibile.
