Grand Ayatollah Rohani
Article Abstract:
Religious scholar and jurist Sayyid Muhammad Husayni Rohani was able to trace his genealogy back to the great-grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. He began a traditional religious education early in life, and completed his studies in Iraq as a teenager. He studied under Sayyid Abul-Qasim al-Khoi for seven years, and developed a reputation as an extremely gifted scholar and teacher. He carefully avoided any political activity, but it was known that he did not believe that an Islamic state should be controlled by a jurist holding absolute power.

Futile handshakes of those kept hostage by Iran's past
Article Abstract:
There was considerable tension surrounding the joint press conference held by Abbas Abdi, one of the Iranians who organized the takeover of the US embassy in Tehran, Iran, in 1979, and Barry Rosen, one of the US hostages held captive for 444 days. Journalists tried to get Abdi to respond to searching questions about his involvement with cases of torture, but their line of questioning was opposed by Eric Rouleau, who organized the press conference. Abdi said Rosen should not take his captivity personally, but Rosen was unable to accept this.
