Rawnsley! Thou shouldst be living at this hour
Article Abstract:
Canon Rawnsley was a Victorian vicar who was one of the founders of the National Trust. He has not attracted much attention from historians and writers since his death, but his memory has been revived with recent demonstrations about animal welfare. He had a very strong interest in environmental issues, and some of the campaigns which he led were extremely modern, much more like those which are being undertaken today. Issues which concerned him included railway construction, water pollution and organic farming.
