Article Abstract:

It is possible to create an attractive rooftop garden, even in otherwise unattractive urban settings. It is best to use a range of plants in pots, placing them closely together in order to prevent them being too exposed and drying out too quickly. It is important to keep all the pots the same colour, as this creates less distraction and so makes a small area look larger. Frequent watering must be undertaken, and clay granules can be used to increase the water-holding capacity of pots and hanging baskets.

Article Abstract:

Painter Eric Ravilious painted three greehnouse pictures, but he was not a gardener. He was brought up in Eastbourne, Sussex, England, attended the Royal College of Art and returned to Eastbourne to teach at the Eastbourne Art School. He painted murals and Sussex landscapes. His greenhouse pictures, including 'Geraniums and Carnations,' which have no people in them, may have been based on Firle Place.
