Inside the minds of the hard men
Article Abstract:
The Parachute Regiment has been the subject of considerable negative publicity recently, with both offiers and ordinary Paratroopers having been guilty of acts of violence against each other or against members of the public. The Regiment has traditionally been seen as an elite force, even though its members have always had a reputation for being high spirited. However, it has now suffered embarrassment and humiliation as battlefield training in speed and aggression has spilled over into uncontrolled attacks.

Between a rock and a hard place
Article Abstract:
There has been a long tradition of Scottish islands such as Eigg being owned by absentee landlords. On this particular island, however, relations between tenant farmers and its absentee landlord, German painter Maruma, have become very strained. Maruma is being investigated for fraud, and it is thought that he may have put the island up as a guarantee on a loan. The case of Eigg has become a focus for wider discontent in Scotland about private land ownership.
