Noah's laboratory comes to the rescue
Article Abstract:
The United States Fish and Wildlife Service forensics laboratory, opened in 1989, in Ashland, Oregon, is committed to wildlife law enforcement. It researches the expansion of DNA-based identification of species. Animal parts and products are one-fifth of the annual import-export wildlife trade. A chemical test to distinguish bear gall bladders may lead to the American black bear being placed on the endangered list even though the species is thriving.

The mystery killer in the garden pond
Article Abstract:
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is funding a series of tests to ascertain the cause of the mass deaths of frogs in the UK. Since May 1992, 250 cases have been reported. The tests are being carried out on 10 sites and involve water and soil tests and post-mortems. The cause of death is yet unknown but experts believe that it could be environmental pollution. Frogs have a sensitive, permeable skin and are semi-aquatic.

Mystery of the very little women
Article Abstract:
Premature sexual maturity is a rare condition which is more common in girls than in boys. In some cases, sexual characteristics can develop from the age of four, and this can cause both physical and emotional problems. Bones mature too early, causing them to fuse and stop growing too early as well, and this means that the children affected may never achieve their full potential height.
