Hard on Wainwright's heels
Article Abstract:
The East Cumbria Countryside Project, the Country Landowners Association, the National Farmers' Union and individuals have written to London publisher Michael Joseph to complain about their publication of Wainwright's walkers' guides to the Lakeland fells, the Pennine Way and his own coast-to-coast route. This includes 22 miles of walks across private land. Walkers following Wainwright cause damage and affect the wildlife. Objectors suggest changing the route in a cheaper handbook and producing a luxury, artistic version of the original. The publishers are also asked for finance towards repairs.

Westcountry TV (WTV) at Plymouth was accused of provocative interview techniques by three women journalists. Controller of news and current affairs Richard Myers and senior news producer Brad Higgins conducted interviews aggressively but did not intend sexual harrassment. Managing director John Prescott Thomas said the interviews were designed to suit the type of staff required for a busy news room.
