Sir David Huddie
Article Abstract:
Engineer David Huddie studied Mathematics at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. He joined Rolls-Royce in 1939, and designed critical parts of the Merlin aircraft engine. He was closely involved in the conversion of the Merlin for airliner use, and later became Chief Development Engineer for civil engines. He moved to the US in 1967 to focus on selling the RB211 engine to Lockheed. He left Rolls-Royce in 1970, becoming Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College, London, England.

Paul Leyton
Article Abstract:
Engineer and restaurateur Paul Leyton joined Austin Motors in 1931 as an apprentice. He served in the RAF and then in the Air Branch of the Royal Navy during the second world war. He had various engineering jobs until 1956, when he joined Saunders Roe to work on the Black Knight scheme. He was Engineering Director at Black & Decker between 1959 and 1961, but then moved in a new direction after purchasing a country pub in Somerset, England.
