Trevor Philpott
Article Abstract:
Journalist Trevor Philpott studied Mechanical Sciences at Cambridge University, England. He served as an engineering officer in the RNVR between the ages of 18 and 23, but then joined a succession of newspapers, having become involved in journalism at university. He first worked for the News Chronicle, and then joined the Picture Post in 1951. He was subsequently special correspondent for the Sunday Times, winning several press awards. He later moved into television journalism, and gained particular respect for 'The Philpott File,' a series of 50-minute documentaries.

Sir Gordon Newton
Article Abstract:
Journalist Gordon Newton was editor of the Financial Times between 1950 and 1972. He was very strongly committed to his work, and was closely involved in all areas of the newspaper's editorial and design. He was tough and determined, but was also highly respected for the way in which he encouraged young, talented journalists. He looked for hard news and factual reporting, and had a keen instinct for what ordinary people really wanted to read.
