Harold Plenderleith
Article Abstract:
Museum conservator Harold Plenderleith was recruited by the Department of Science and Industrial Research in 1924 to work at the British Museum on research into the causes of deterioration of some museum items kept in storage during the first world war. He was involved with the scientific analysis of finds from the tomb of Tutankhamun in the 1920s, and was Keeper of the British Museum Research Laboratory between 1949 and 1959. In 1959 he became the first director of the International Centre for the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property in Rome, Italy.

Christopher Gilbert
Article Abstract:
Furniture historian and museum curator Christopher Gilbert studied English and History at Keele University, England, and gained an MA at Durham University, England. He spent his whole working life at Temple Newsam, a large country house on the outskirts of Leeds, England. He remained based at this house when he was Director of Leeds City Art Galleries between 1982 and 1995. He joined the Furniture History Society at its formation in 1964, and was its journal editor between 1975 and 1983 and its Chmn in 1990.

Colin Sorensen

The British museum curator Colin Sorensen died on Aug 3 2001 aged 71. He was best known for creating the modern collection at the Museum of London, England.
