Besieged gays win some new friends in the North
Article Abstract:
Gays and lesbians in Manchester, England, have been the target of a number of violent crimes, but these often go unreported. This means that the police have little knowledge of hate crime against gays and lesbians. The police and the city's Lesbian and Gay Policing Initiative are now hoping to improve this situation, in particular looking at ways of coping with homophobic attacks. There will be greater flexibility in ways of reporting such incidents, and it is hoped that this will produce some valuable information for the police.

Ten slow years on the road to hell
Article Abstract:
The London Orbital Motorway, or M25, which was opened in 1986, has been the scene of constant traffic problems. It often has lengthy tailbacks, and many people using it get lost. It was designed to alleviate traffic problems in London, but in fact is mainly used by people who would not otherwise be travelling through London. There are 7,000 people who regularly travel part of the motorway's 117 miles between 6am and 10am every day.
