Article Abstract:
Satish Kumar, born in India in 1936, became a monk when he was nine and at 25 became influential in the western green movement. He lives in Hartland with his wife and two children and they edit the ecology magazine 'Resurgence.' He established the London School of Non-Violence in 1968. He walked halfway round the world between 1962 and 1964 on a peace pilgrimage. In 1986 he walked 2,000 miles around the holy places of Britain in four months. He established the Small School for children aged 11-16, which has been praised by educationalists.

Latin American economies depend on drug income to exist. Most of the processing occurs in the North. Cocaine is not subject to changes in the world economy. There is a strong link between drugs and debt. The South aids the North while living with increasing insolvency. The South has neglected social and environmental goals while exploiting natural resources and exporting crops to service debt repayments laid down by the International Monetary Fund.

Bottled water loses its sparkle

It is not worth spending a lot of money on bottled mineral water, according to a 'Which?' report which details the results of tests on more than 50 bottled waters. These products can contain high levels of bacteria, and generally taste no different from filtered tap water. The report concludes that mineral waters do not deserve their image as being a healthier alternative to tap water.
