The private sector is playing a key role in rebuilding Angola's infrastructure, which was extensively damaged by the civil war. The government regards privatization as a significant element in the rebuilding process, and state-owned civil construction firm Geotecnica is hoping to gain more contracts when it is privatized.

Changing times for idle factories

There is little manufacturing activity in Angola apart from diamond mining, oil and related services. Many factories are not operating because of lack of equipment and replacement parts. However, the government is now planning to address this problem through wide-reaching privatization.

Overcoming the legacies of war and flooding

There has been extensive damage to Angola's infrastructure as a result of the civil war. Attention must now focus on rebuilding road and rail links if the economy is to begin growing. Air remains an important form of travel until road and rail links improve.
