Hidden virtues of loser-friendly Liverpool
Article Abstract:
There has been a long history of strained industrial relations in Liverpool, England. Most recently, this has been highlighted by a strike by dock workers, who feel that they are representing all working people by making a stand against poor conditions and low pay. There is a strong sense of community in the city, despite the physical destruction of communities, with a quality of care and compassion having been created through the bitter experiences of many generations. Against this background, ordinary people are willing to fight to retain their dignity and decency.

Simple preacher tries on a pontiff's robes
Article Abstract:
George Carey, the current Archbishop of Canterbury, has undertaken extensive foreign travel, having already made more than 40 overseas trips. In this way, he is emphasising his role as leader of a communion of churches across the world with 70 million members. It could be said that in this respect he rather resembles the Pope, who also has a worldwide influence. However, his real authority is limited to the diocese of Canterbury, and he has no legal powers in other Anglican provinces.
