Some UK MPs have revealed that it has become common practice for House of Commons expenses to be diverted into party funds. The expenses are intended to fund parliamentary activities, and it is not permitted to use them for party or personal purposes, as they are tax-free. Sensation! Tory minister does the decent thing
Article Abstract:
The Paymaster General, David Willetts, who was strongly criticised by the Standards and Privileges Committee, has resigned as a Conservative minister. It was claimed that he tried to subvert a parliamentary inquiry into politicians receiving money for asking questions. His resignation has led to renewed speculation that the government is on the point of collapse. He has been replaced by Michael Bates, who has been a government whip for more than two years.
